ISSUE NO. 1

The Club

Sunday, October 6—Welcome to the first issue of ClubHouse, a weekly newsletter dedicated to the best of tennis culture and lifestyle. This week, we worked hard to get the newsletter set up, hit the courts for a few sets, and managed to tackle our “regular jobs”.

Every Sunday, we’ll send you a curated mix of timeless moments, must-read articles, the best in gear, style, travel, and a nod to the elegant women who have long been part of the sport’s allure.

Enjoy the read, have a great week, and thanks for giving ClubHouse a look. If you enjoyed it, please share with your friends and fellow enthusiasts—we’d greatly appreciate it!

Cheers,

Clyde & Oliver

FROM THE ARCHIVES

As the China Open just wrapped, it’s the perfect time to talk about 21-year-old Michael Chang’s impact at the very first event back in 1993, then known as the Salem Open. Chang clinched the inaugural title by defeating Greg Rusedski in a thrilling three-set match, 7-6(7-5), 6-7(6-8), 6-4. He went on to win the tournament two more times in 1994 and 1995, solidifying his presence as a dominant force in the region. Chang’s victories played a pivotal role in establishing the event as a premier competition and helped elevate tennis’s profile in Asia.

Michael’s story is one worth revisiting—his 30 for 30 documentary is out now. Check out the trailer.

Note: We couldn’t track down a photo from that event, so here’s one of his classic, badass reaches instead.
